Keira Knightley has once again been typecasted into a role from another era. This time she plays the role of Georgiana Spencer, "The Duchess" of Devonshire from the Georgian period. Knightley's character is married off young by her mother to the Duke of Devonshire with the sole purpose of producing a male heir. Unfortunately she produces two daughters and has many miscarriages along the way, it is years before she is able to produce a male heir. The relationship with her husband proves to be difficult right from the start, the Duke is unfaithful from the start of their relationship committing adultery with numerous women, he falls for and carries a lifelong affair with Georgiana's only true friend Bess, whom she met at a ball, resulting in an awkward living situation with the three, including Bess' child, living in the same household. Georgiana is a character that depicts early feminism, personal strength, and more importantly head over heart.
